In the heart of Satipo road, in the central tropical Andes of Peru, the Centro Poblado Calabaza protects stretches of forest with exceptional birdlife: more than 10 regional endemic species and over 200 species recorded in participatory surveys.

In this natural sanctuary, the local population, organized as the Asociación Calabaza Corazón, provides the necessary services, offering a unique gateway for serious birders seeking endemics and a wide variety of habitats (yungas to highland headwaters).

Located in Pampa Hermosa, district of Satipo, Junín, Calabaza is part of the San Cristóbal de Pucutá–Menkori ACR proposal and has established the Asociación Calabaza Corazón as the local lead for responsible birding development.
